They call it the Scion School...

Jacey calls it a prison

She has no parents. None of the students on this remote Caribbean island do.

The world beyond? Destroyed by an asteroid impact long ago.

So what happens after graduation? The last class walked into the medical ward and were never seen again.

They've all been told lies. Lies and more lies!

Jacey hates herself for believing them for so long.

They've trained her body and mind to peak condition...for some purpose. But what?

Do they expect her to walk meekly into...whatever happens in the medical ward?

No. She will take it by storm. Full of fury. And she will rip the the Scion School apart to save herself and her friends.

To discover who she is.

And what she is.

Eric Kent Edstrom's compelling and genuine heroine, Jacey, will win your heart. Join this cast on an adventure full of action and twists you'll never see coming. Often compared to The Island and Never Let Me Go, this beloved series has YA dystopian fans raving for more.

Praise from Amazon Reviewers:"Gripping! I'm buying book 2." --Highlander "Great plot with twists and turns to keep things jumping." --Teri C"Would recommend to those who enjoy young adult fiction such as The Hunger Games and Divergent. I'd definitely love for this series to become as popular as those titles because it definitely deserves it." --Rebecca J. "It is not easy to write a story about quiet courage and unassuming heroes, but this book rises to that challenge and hits one right out of the park." --Claire Violet Thorpe's Books "The premise of this book IS really frightening! What if someday it is possible to do what was done here?" --AZlaydey "I loved this book! The characters were very well written, the story was absolutely riveting and I found it difficult to put down! I'm going to buy the next book asap!" --Dana B. "I can only say this was great, and yes I am a Divergent and Hunger Games fan...ALL of the criteria have been met for this book to merit a solid 5 stars." --Aisha-Kimblery H. "Full of action. From the Author

Sometimes an idea just grabs you and you have to write it down. That's what happened to me when I hit upon the idea for The Scion Chronicles. I grabbed a piece of scrap paper and jotted down the line: "Immortality via clones and mind transfer." I ended up not needing the note. I couldn't get the idea out of my mind. The only thing I could do was abandon the project I was working on at the time and write the story that had become an obsession.

I read "Daughter of Nothing" over the course of 3 days. On one of those evenings, I was planning to read a single chapter and then catch up on some sleep... and instead read 10 or 11 chapters before finally deciding that I HAD to put it down and go to bed.

What's my point?

It's that "Daughter of Nothing" is a suspenseful, well-written story that contains a great combination of foreshadowing AND surprises. That combination makes the book quite fun to read... The suspense kept me wanting to continue reading through the next chapter to find out what was going to happen. Yet at the same time, the foreshadowing helped me to take some fairly accurate guesses as to what might be coming.

I can hardly wait to find out where the next book in the series will take the story!

A good beginning to a series. The best thing about it is that the falsehoods that the POV character believes are presented as truth, so that it isn't until she is faced with enough cognitive dissonance to force her to look at the world differently that we begin to see the crack ourselves, and yet the story still has internal consistency -- when you go back and look at the beginning knowing what you do at the end, you can see that everything is consistent with reality, more than with her perception of reality.

Delightfully creepy.

Just WOW! Read the synapse and thought well I LOVED the movie The Island so figured I'd give it a chance. I was blown away. The premise isnt organ transfer like the movie movie, rather mind transfer and just drags you in. A true page turner with well drawn and fast beloved characters and a horrid villain to hate. I already got the rest of the series downloaded ready to start right away. How I'm going to sleep long enough to put down my marathon reading I plan I don't know....yeah it's that good! Highly recommended you buy this series for sure!

The characters are… okay. I felt that many of them could have had more depth, particularly among the adults. Even Jacey felt as though she was held at a little bit of a distance, and thus made somewhat bland. The ultimate bad guy was quite one-dimensionally evil. The adults in particular are fairly repugnant.

I wish we’d been able to pick up a bit more of what the outside world is like. We have the barest outline of what the students have been taught, with little reality to hold up to it by the end. I guess we’re supposed to want to read further books in the series in order to find out, but without that context I don’t find that I particularly care that much about the world and what happens to it next.

It took a while for me to get into the book. For quite a while the pace is fairly consistently slow. Eventually it did catch my interest, and the plot managed to deliver a surprise or two for brief periods of time. I also appreciate that Jacey was allowed to retain her strong individuality without being required to romantically pair up with either of the obvious choices.

Ultimately, while I enjoyed reading Daughter of Nothing, I don’t plan to read any follow-ons.

I can only say this was great, and yes I am a Divergent and Hunger Games fan... I loved how the characters are so deep and complex, and for me in any book I read that is what I mostly look for, that and how the wold is described, s o that I can fall into the book. ALL of the criteria have been met for this book to merit a solid 5 stars. It was so good that I started the book in the morning, intent to read it in one sitting and was able to finish it in about 3 and a half hours. I will be getting the rest of the series once I regroup from the holidays and my credit card bills are gone, lol

This is an excellent book, very well-written. I highly recommend it.
The premise of the story might sound familiar, but that's just enough to hook your interest. To know what REALLY happens, you have to read it for yourself.
There's never a dull moment and you aren't overwhelmed with descriptions, which is my favorite combination. Everything feels perfectly paced. Just when you start to think you know what's going to happen, you get a curve-ball thrown at you. I loved every moment.

Five out of five stars.

Oh, I liked it! It's got some unique twists in the book and the characters are all string and interesting. Definitely gonna pick up book 2.

My fourth amazing read from author Eric Kent Edstrom. I first discovered this author in Thief of Sparks (Starside Saga #1) & A Raven's Dream (Starside Saga Book 2). As good as those books are this one is better & I can't wait to read the next book in this series and having read/listened to this one in audio I'm very tempted to do the next one in audio as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my gosh, what an amazing book!

I loved this story! Firstly, I love the dystopian genre generally but the characters in this were fantastic and the doctor, an utter creep-weirdo! I love Jacey, shes so cute, naive, intelligent and strong but vulnerable too. I love her sense of loyalty and her kindness, especially to Livy and her dog! I usually get bored as I have an ADHD attention span but I cannot wait until the 2nd in this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth a go

Enjoyed it. It wasn't hard to figure out what was going on but I assume it was aimed at younger readers so I'll forgive that. Loved the characters. The girls were more developed than the boys.

Have to take one star off though for some inconsistencies. For example, early on we read that Jacey's Progenitor is an actress who has asked for her to have special memorisation training (a major clue to what's really going on), then later we find out (a major plot point) that Jacey doesn't have an active Progenitor.

Also some of the adult characters' motivations seemed a little off. The bad guy was a little too much of a moustache-twirler.

I'll continue with part 2 when I get a chance, though I have a nagging feeling that this book (good as it was) covered too much too soon and there isn't likely to be much of substance left to do. We will see!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good read

Very interesting read. A good book I enjoyed reading it very much and the love interest didn't overpower the book but blended in brilliantly. Refreshing to have love interest in a book which didn't become cloying very quickly. Too many Authors pad out their books with pages and pages of droll sentiment and sexual content. This Author instead concentrates on the actual plot and likeable characters. A lovely, fast paced read

This book not only looks beautiful but feels great. Good quality paper and cover is like matt to the touch. The blurb looks exciting and I have read an excerpt - sounds like fun. For my 14 yr old sister for Christmas, I'm sure she'll get hooked!

My review of this novel would be only one word - if Amazon would allow it. Since it will not, I've turned it into the sentence you see here. But my actual review is - Gripping!
I'm buying book 2.
